"This desk was originally the personal property of President Franklin Pierce, fourteenth President of the United States. Born in Hillsborough, Hillsborough Co., N.H. President Pierce was practicing law in Concord, N.H. at the time of his election by the Democratic party in 1852, and used this desk in his office. When he was elected President, and went to Washington in 1853, he gave this desk to Charles Norton of Concord, N.H., a personal friend. It remained his property until 1875, he then giving it to Col. John H. George, who presented to his nephew H. W. George, who brought it to Leominster in 1880, it remaining in his possession until purchased by M.H. Bosworth in 1907."
